Environment Certification for Salzburg Airport
Environment Certification In December 1999 the specialists of the TÜV Bavaria carried out an audit of the airport for the environment management system in compliance with EMAS/ISO 14001.

This was a continuation of a corresponding project, which had been carried out at the airport since the March of 1998. Since then the project management is in the hands of PR and Environment administrative department. The project is supported by the company Gutwinski Umweltmanagement (Environment Management Ltd) GmbH, Perchtoldsdorf.
Salzburg was selected to carry out a pilot project in the frame of a commission from the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Youth and Family Affairs. The project was subsidised by the ministries mentioned.

Through the results of the external assessment we can be sure:
Salzburg Airport passed the test in compliance with the EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) with flying colours. The auditors deemed our airport to be above average for the certification of ISO 14001. This means that Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart was the first Austrian Airport and one of the first within the whole of Europe to be awarded the corresponding certificate.

"The role our enterprise has a quality airport with the highest environmental standards in the top European fields will be explicitly tested", emphasizes the Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Günther Auer on the occasion of a press conference called by the Mayor of Salzburg Dr. Heinz Schaden on the 23rd of December 1999. On this occasion, the now 10 year environmental cooperation between the city and its Airport was honoured by the head of the city.
