When leaving a country or the European Union, show your purchases, receipts and passport to customs officials and have your Global Refund Cheques export validated.
Collect your refund in cash at our nearby Cash Refund Office or send the cheque to Global Refund for a bank cheque sent to your address or direct crediting of your credit card.
For goods in your hand luggage, you'll find the tax refund desk "U-34 Zoll/Customs" in the Travel-Value & Duty Free Shop at Salzburg Airport.
For goods in your checked-in luggage the tax refund desk is situated in the check-in hall (terminal 1).
For passengers on charter flights (e.g. to Russia), the "U-34 Zoll/Customs" desk is at the "bulky items" desk (terminal 1).
The confirmation will be given only, if Salzburg ist the last airport when leaving the EU.

Tax Free Shopping in Austria
In Austria there are many opportunities to benefit from Tax Free Shopping. More than 15.000 retail outlets offer Tax free service. Simply shop where you see the well-known Tax Free Shopping logo. The helpful staff in our affiliated stores will guide you through the process.
On the purchases you make you pay 16.67 respectively 9.09% VAT depending on the kind of goods you buy (9.09 for foods, books, newspapers, 16.67 for everything else). The VAT is included in the purchase price.
All visitors residing outside of the European Union are entitled to claim back VAT if they spend €75.01 or more in one shop in one day.
The goods need to be exported within three months plus the month of purchase.
Example: If you make your purchases on April 10th, you must leave the country no later than July 31st.
After deduction of the handling fee you will receive a refund of up to 15% of the purchase price. Global Refund offers several possibilities to receiving your refund.
How to get your Global Refund Cheque stamped by customs when leaving by plane
Goods in checked-in luggage:
1. Check your luggage in at the check-in counter but tell the check-in clerk you need it back for customs purposes.
2. Take the labeled luggage to counter 35 or 36 in Terminal 2 (customs). Show the goods there and have your Tax-free Cheque stamped.
3. Cash your stamped Global Refund Cheque at a Cash Refund Desk or use the envelope you received from the shop to send in the documents to Global Refund Austria.
Goods in carry-on luggage:
1. Go to customs after passport control to show the goods and to have your Global Refund Cheque stamped. Attention: Customs clearance of goods in carry-on luggage can only take place at the last EU-airport before you finally leave the European Union.
2. Cash your stamped Global Refund Cheque at a Cash Refund Desk or use the envelope you received from the shop to send in the documents to Global Refund Austria.
