Sam Heine, British Airways Commercial Manager for Switzerland and Austria told a press conference that his airline is confident that the new flight will be a commercial success.
Salzburg Airport CEO Günther Auer said in his statement. "This is excellent news for the airport and the whole region to have a new flight connection with a premium airline to London and the South of England.
The new flight is the result of extensive market research and analysis conducted by both British Airways and Salzburg Airport. The new flight from Gatwick will be a year-round operation.
"The new high quality product of British Airways provides access from Salzburg and western Austria to the network of one of the best airlines in the world" said Salzburg Airport Marketing Manager Roland Hermann. "Our airport has achieved one of his marketing goals - to attract a second world alliance to Salzburg: One World. We expect up to 70.000 passengers per year to use the new flight connection to and from Salzburg".
BA from London and Manchester to Salzburg
In addition to the Gatwick flight programme, British Airways subsidiary GB Airways will operate an Airbus A320 five times weekly from Manchester into Salzburg using BA codeshare and flight numbers. The Manchester service will operate during the winter season only.
