Safety regulations on hand luggage!
New safety regulations on hand luggage! As of 6 November 2006, the following safety regulations on hand luggage apply to all departures and onward flights from EU airports, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. You may continue to carry liquids, gels and sprays in your hand luggage...

...in packages of up to 100 ml (3.5 fluid ounces, UK) in volume. These must be packed in transparent, resealable plastic containers of up to one litre in volume. One container is permitted per person.

The exceptions to this are baby food, special dietary requirements (e.g. for medical purposes) and medication that you will require during the flight. These items can be transported additionally to the plastic container.

Please note, that the following items must be presented seperately at the security controls:

  • the transparent plastic container, with maximum volume of 100 ml (3.5 fluid ounces, UK) each
  • Laptops and electronic equipment (mp3 players, mobiles, etc)
  • Jackets and coats
  • all items purchased in airport shops

Items and containers not meeting these requirements may not be taken on board the aircraft.

All items you purchase on board must be transported in a sealed plastic container and marked with the flight number and date. The colleagues on board the aircraft will be happy to do this for you.

In the event that you urgently require other liquids and wish to check these in with your luggage, please pack these in such a way that they are secure against knocks, leakage and breakage. We cannot accept liability for any damage to luggage that has been checked in.

The new EU regulations for cabin baggage apply to all destinations from Austria, including the USA. The new rules will still permit passengers to buy under certain conditions larger quantities of liquids at airport shops beyond the point where boarding passes are controlled.

Lastly, six months after this new regulation comes into force (which will be May 6, 2007) the rigour of regulations will encrease relating to the size of cabin baggage. In that it may not exceed the following size: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (8kg). These measures correspond to the existing regulations by IATA.
